Summary of the 2019 CureSCi Annual Forum

CureSCi Staff

The first annual forum for the Cure Sickle Cell Initiative (CureSCi) was a success!

The three-day meeting included presentations and discussions focused on “Accelerating Scientific Priorities.” Attendees engaged in innovative solution-discovery sessions to define the priorities and opportunities to enhance our roadmap towards a cure.  Sessions included topics on the promise of gene editing, defining a cure, ethics of gene editing, status of the CureSCi, the need for long-term follow-up data, and the importance of social support, among others.

The last day wrapped with a surprise visit from Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams, which was an exciting end to an already uplifting forum. We look forward to another year of progress towards the cure for sickle cell disease!
