ASH Interviews Dr. Edward Benz on the Cure Sickle Cell Initiative
In December 2019, Dr. Edward Benz was interviewed at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting for the ASH News TV daily newscast. During the interview, he spoke about progress that has been made with sickle cell treatments and therapies, and he shared that we are now “…on the edge of being able to use emerging technologies of gene therapy and gene editing to have a definitive cure.”
He also spoke about how the Cure Sickle Cell Initiative began and drew attention to its ability to encourage collaboration. He noted that its novel funding mechanisms help "bring together the multiple sectors of our endeavor that have to be collaborating in order to get these therapies deployed."
