Since the launch of the Cure Sickle Cell Initiative (CureSCi) in 2018, investments in foundational research have led to advances in the field of gene therapy, which have helped to further the development of potential treatments. This progress has focused not only on the scientific and technological aspects of gene therapies, but also on safety, costs, accessibility, and readiness.
